Climate Psychology

"It is in our nature to want to fight for the health of the planet. This life is a gift, and it is our responsibility to respect and protect that which gives us life." -Xiuhtezcatl Martinez
Climate chaos is here and whether we or our loved ones have been impacted by natural disasters, or we are observing the realities around the world and the changes and losses in and around the places we live and love, it is a deeply challenging time to be an awake, feeling human.
In response to the realities of climate change, you may find yourself experiencing:
  • Anxiety and fear day to day
  • Despair and doom about the future
  • Acute and ongoing grief
  • Concerns for the future for your children, or concerns about having children in the first place
  • Fatigue from activism, or feelings of paralysis when you consider taking action
  • Anger at previous generations, or at society and those with power for not taking necessary action

I'm in this with you, and in part to navigate my own processing around the realities of climate change, I pursued and completed the Climate Psychology Certification from the California Institute for Integrative Studies. Together, we can find ways to grieve, move with our anger, connect with the beyond-human world, and take action in alignment with our values. Though there is no one answer, there are tools and pathways that can get us unstuck and reconnected to what causes our deep pain in the first place; love for each other and our planet. Living into that love in times of crisis can be our compass for meaning and joy even as we hold terrible suffering and destruction.
"You can never leave footprints that last if you're always walking on tiptoe." -Leymah Gbowee
